#174: That Time We Watched Platoon

This week in our first month without a theme in a while Don picked a film he had never seen before, 1986’s Platoon. Directed by Oliver Stone and based on his experiences from the war, the film follows a U.S. Army volunteer serving in Vietnam while his Platoon Sergeant and his Squad Leader argue over the morality in the platoon and the conduct of the war.  It stars Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe, Charlie Sheen, Keith David, Forest Whitaker, and Johnny Depp Platoon and was the first Hollywood film to be written and directed by a veteran of the Vietnam War.
